Shanghai Startup Weekend in English
Sep
Shanghai hosted an English edition of Startup Weekend on September 9th, 10th and 11th.
What is Startup Weekend?
Founded in the US, Startup Weekend is a non-for-profit organization promoting entrepreneurship.
Startup weekend events consist of gathering people and making them focus on an idea, so they can strive to transform it into a credible business.
Nearly 300 startup weekends have been organized over the world since 2007, leading to create more than 2,400 start-ups.
Shanghai Startup Weekend
During 54 hours, more than 40 candidates coming from several countries, including China, US, France, met in Shanghai to develop a commercial case. All had something to bring to their team, for example, some were specialized in web development, graphic design, SEO, or SEM.
Shanghai Startup Weekend prized two teams: Taximate, a mobile application used to share a taxi with people nearby, and Fakespotting, a website enabling users to share photos and opinions about possible fake products.
This Startup Weekend was the first English edition held in Shanghai. A Chinese edition took place in July, and another will follow from November 18th to 20th.
