Trust in Ecommerce : Show Me your True Colors

The more I am used to you, the more I may buy from you. The more I trust you, the more I come back to your website and get used to you.
That is a general rule for ecommerce, that I had the chance to test and test again, and it never let me down. Let people trust you and get used to your ecommerce or website.
How many people buy on an ecommerce at first visit?
Well, not many if you’re not a big brand like amazon or adobe, people don’t know you, so they won’t buy from you. It’s easy, the first thing you need to build is trust / then love. But first, trust.
Good news for you, the more they come back, before buying, the more they are likely to buy (I hear a sigh of relief).
How do you build trust?
Ok, personally, I hate the websites with the famous message “I am a consultant, a christian, a husband and a father” … what they actually mean is that they are realiable, that is what they want you to think… but it has very often the opposite effect on me. Am I the only one thinking “and why this would make you a good person? And besides, why the F*** should I care about your religion and believes? “
My meaning is, introduce yourself, your company, your product, but don’t overdo it! Don’t put pictures of you with your friends, your family, etc, because very often, it’s used by scam websites!
If you speak honestly, then, somehow, people can feel it through your words… and it actually works. Why? Because you’re not a thief, you’re out there to sell your services or your products, and you don’t need to hide that, they know it, and everyone is ok with that. Just don’t try to trick! Don’t say it’s for free when it’s actually not.
Be yourself!
Don’t pretend you’re selling what you’re not, don’t pretend you have the knowledge you don’t, and sell better the knowledge you actually have.
What would make people contact me? Buy? Come back on my website?
That is the true question you have to focus on. Because the more they come back, the more they have chances to buy. But also, the more you are honest, the more they have chances to come back… see what I mean?
How many websites did you leave thinking “bastards”. Well, check your website, imagine you’re a new visitor, and see if you’re not trying to trick your visitors by any mean. Is that vital to your business? Is it working and developing your business? Probably not. Then get rid of it. Sell what you are, sell what you have, and show the world you are trustable
Most part of People are not Dumb!
I swear! Do you think people you meet outside are dumb? No (or maybe you’re a genius? ;) So why those online should be then! Think that the average visitor is about your intelligence, can you trick him? should you? Come on, see your own reactions when you click on some websites thinking “what is that gonna be… another scam?” you can smell them before the page actually opens right?
So, give your customers “crystal” clear, and they will give you “gold”.
The pricing question?
Hum, it’s easy for a product, of course you should put its price. But what about a service, what about your services in general. The common fear of business people is this :
“if I put the price, people will be scared because I am not actually cheap, but once I meet them, they think it’s ok because they know what they are paying for. They know I am competent and that’s what they need, and that I am really going to increase their ROI. But if I show them the price, I might lose them forever, without having the chance to explain”
1- Why don’t you put your explanations on your website? The full one, to explain why you put that price?
2- The business you are losing because you don’t put the price … might be higher than the business you protect!
3- Last but not least, why WE at THEM we don’t put the prices on our website? (I bet you were going to ask me anyways)
Well, actually it’s a good question. I am wondering. I think I have the same illness than everyone, even if I can see that this illness is blocking my business, I cannot get rid of it… for now. I am studying ways of doing it smartly. So I might do it in the very near future.
So, my fellow SME companies, before selling online, remember you need to build trust.
