We haven't spoken about phones lately, so I thought I'd keep us all updated on the latest swag.
Huawei's newest darling
The Mobile World Congress is currently being held in Barcelona, Spain. At this Congress of Everything Tech, Huawei chose to launch its brand new smartphone. This piece of fab engineering and shiny surface is named the Ascend P2 and is a more realistic and pret-a-porter version of the Huawei Ascend Mate.
Who runs the show?
The new Huawei smartphone is equipped with (almost) cutting edge Android 4.1 and has a 4.7 inch glass screen. Although substantially smaller than Huawei's Ascend mate that comes in at 6.1 inch, this is still a sizable smartphone.
2012 numbers
In a press release yesterday, Huawei revealed it shipped over 52 million handsets last year and that 32 million of them were smartphones.
This puts Huawei as the 3rd largest phone maker behind Apple (you guessed it) and Samsung (also not very surprising). Rival ZTE is coming up very closely behind them so keeping an eye on these rankings would be wise in the coming months.
The phone and telecoms company had sales revenues raking up $7.5 billion in 2012, a massive extra 10% over last year's earnings.
Increasingly international market
We also found out that the company actually makes 66% of its money outside of China. More than a simple Chinese Giant, Huawei is increasingly becoming a multinational in its own right, worrying enough for slightly stagnating companies such as Apple.
Shotgun being the first one in the office to own the Huawei Ascend P2
